Ariyana’s World

World through the eyes of a baby

Pumpkin patch here we come!! October 27, 2008

Zach and I went to the Georgia Tech game on Saturday so Ariyana spent the whole day and night with my mom (Grandma).  My mom said she was a little more clingy than normal but Ariyana has had a cold so that doesn’t surprise me.  She also threw all her milk up at dinner.  My mom said it was all over the high chair trey….YUCK!!!!  She also took a nap from 3:45 – 6:00p and then my mom woke her up so that she would go to bed….and she went to bed fine at 8:30.

Sunday, my mom, Richard, Jennifer, and Robb met us at the outlets to go to Burt’s pumpkin farm.  When we got to the outlets, my mom informed me that Ariyana had not taken a nap all day (this like at 1:30p).  She said Ariyana was acting tired at 11am so my mom thought surely she would sleep in the car on the way to Dawsonville…..wrong, then we thought she might sleep on the way to Burt’s…..wrong.  So she didn’t take a nap at all before the pumpkin farm.

We got to Burt’s around 2p and had a picnic lunch.  Then we opened birthday presents, (my mom, Zach, and I) and after that, we headed in to see all the pumpkins.  We had fun there.  We tried to get some cute pictures of Ariyana in the pumpkin patch but it was hard.  She wanted to be held, and would reach for your hand every time you put her down.  Eventually she got used to the pumpkins a little bit and would walk around touching them, but then you couldn’t get a picture of her looking at you because she was so fascinated by the pumpkins.  After we walked around for a while and Robb took some pictures we left.  It was a fun day and beautiful weather.  Ariyana slept all the way home, she was so exhausted.  When we were leaving, I was carrying her and she had her head laying on my shoulder, and for those of us who know Ariyana, that is not like her at all.  Here are some pictures of her in the pumpkin patch.

When we got off work, we went and picked up Ariyana from daycare and headed to Zach’s mom’s (Nana) house.  We picked up a pizza on the way and it was good.  Ariyana had such a good time there.  Normally when we go to someone’s house, Ariyana is shy at first and won’t let anybody but Zach and me hold her.  Well, she reached out for her Nana as soon as we walked in the door and pretty much played with her the whole time we were there.  She enjoyed playing with all the toys there and walking all over the place.  She would go over to her Nana and hand her a toy and Nana would say “thank you” and Ariyana would say it back to her….everytime.  Of course you could understand what she was saying but it sounded the same every time so we knew she was trying to say it to her…it was really cool because she has never done that with us.

So it was Ariyana’s second full day in the infant B room. She is adjusting really well. It is funny though, because every morning we have to walk by her old room and she looks in there like are we going in there? She seems to be doing well, she eats well and plays well in there. I think she likes being with the older kids because they can interact with her more.

After daycare, we stopped at the hospital to see Zach’s uncle. He has a very bad case of pneumonia and is in ICU. He is not doing well but is getting a tiny bit better each day. The doctors are definitely having lots of obstacles trying to treat him. They said it would be a very very long recovery, and he will be in ICU for at least 3 weeks. Ariyana got to see Zach’s aunt, other uncle, and cousin. She was shy at first but then really warmed up to them. She really enjoyed seeing them and playing with them. Other than that Ariyana’s day was pretty uneventful.

Yesterday, however, I put her hair in pigtails for daycare. She looked so adorable……I just had to take a picture.

When I picked Ariyana up from daycare, they informed me that she loves to climb. They said she tries to climb on everything, but their favorite is when she climbs into the swing. They told me that they have to make sure the trey on the swing is locked down because otherwise Ariyana will lift up the trey, climb in the swing, turn around and sit down, and shut the trey back. Then she just sits there and wants it to swing, because she sees the little babies swinging in it.

Her other favorite thing to do at daycare is take the other babies pacifiers. They said she just walks around and pulls them out of their mouths. If the teachers see her do it, she will take the pacifier over and hands it to them. If they don’t see her, she tries to put it in her mouth, but they usually catch her before she can….what a little bully!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I found this out because the last two days when I picked her up, she had her pacifier in her mouth (and she has NEVER taken a pacifier). They told me they gave her it because she was trying to take the other babies. Today she didn’t have hers so I am assuming she didn’t try to take anybodies…..what a crazy baby!!!!!!!!!!

Moving on up!!!!!! October 20, 2008

So today at daycare, I talked to them about when Ariyana was going to move up to the infant B room (12 months – 18 months). They have been telling us for 2 weeks that she was going to be moving up but she hasn’t yet. Zach asked them about it Thursday when he picked her up and they said they like to talk to the parents and make sure that they want them to move up. They said it is not just their opinion but ours too, whether we think she is ready or not. Zach, the daycare, and I all agree she is ready.

Last Thursday and Friday they let her go in the infant B room for a little while and they said she loved it. They said she got upset when she had to go back to her room. I told the director today and she said that they would let her go in the infant B room a little bit every day this week to get her used to it and next Monday, she would be in there full time. I am happy that she gets to move up, but on the other hand, it is kind of sad because that means my little baby is growing up.

Also today at daycare, we took the sippy cup and told them to try it with her. She took it twice today and took the bottle twice. They said she did pretty good with it so she probably won’t need the bottle at all by the end of the week.

Sippy cup drama October 20, 2008

The daycare told us that now that Ariyana is on whole milk, as soon as she can drink out of a sippy cup, we can just bring her sippy cup and they will provide the milk for her. But if she is still using a bottle, then we have to fill the bottle ourselves at home….kind of strange but that is the rule. So on Sunday we thought it would be a good day for her to try to drink her milk out of her sippy cup. Well she didn’t think that was a good idea. I even bought her a new one that I thought she would like. I gave it to her when we went to eat at Zaxbys and she played with and held it the whole time so I was thinking she won’t have any problem switching….she is not very picky….WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We got home and it was time for her bottle. So I put the milk in her new sippy cup and gave it to her. She took one sip and put it down. Then she started crying and came over to me and just wrapped her arms around me and i just held her. After about a minute, she looked at the cup and started crying again. This went on for about 20 minutes. I even took a sip twice to show her that it was “fun” and that she would like doing it. Then Zach picked up the cup (I was still holding her because she wouldn’t let me put her down) and he put it in her mouth and she took a sip. We both started praising her and clapping and telling her she was a good girl. She kind of smiled and went to take another sip. She was having trouble though with the new cup so we went and put it another one of her cups. We did the same thing, handed it to her and praised her when she took it. FINALLY she laid down and drank the whole cup. We were so proud and happy that we didn’t have to watch her cry anymore. Then she went and played like everything was fine.

We gave her the cup again at dinner and she took it just fine. It didn’t take as long as we thought it would to transition her. What a relief? I have read that it takes some babies days, weeks, even months to stop taking the bottle.

Sorry I haven’t written in like a week, we have been so busy.  Saturday my good friend Lisa and I took Ariyana and Amelia (her baby, she is 1 month younger than Ariyana) shopping with us down at North Point.  We had such a good time.  The girls had such a good time together.

Want a Cheerio!!!!!!!!

Want a Cheerio!!!!!!!!

Already shopping together!!!!!!!!

Already shopping together!!!!!!!!

Here are the two girls at Babies r us in the buggy. We went to go look for clothes, shoes, and diapers. They loved riding together in the buggy.

Here are some more of them in the buggy…..they are just so cute…..little best friends in the making.

What are we doing??

What are we doing??

Our mom's are crazy!!!

I am so glad we got to all hang out together, it has been far too long. I really enjoyed it and so did Ariyana. She got a little antsy being in the stroller so long, but for the most part both babies were really good. Ariyana just wants to walk now instead of riding in the stroller. I also found a couple of cute shirts, so the trip overall was a success.

Zach was at the GT/Clemson game and had a blast. And what was even better was that GT won…..GO JACKETS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Doctor here we come October 13, 2008

After all our drama over the weekend with the throwing up and coughing, we decided that Ariyana needed to go to the doctor to make sure she didn’t have anything serious (our niece has a minor case of pneumonia and was around Ariyana).  I was off work today because it was Columbus Day and had an eye doctor appointment in Dahlonega (45 minutes away) at 11am.  So Zach was going to call the doctor when they opened and see what time they could see her.  I told him to try for the afternoon so I would be back in time to take her.

He dropped her off at daycare and on his way to work, he called the doctor’s to see when they could see her.  This was around 8am and they told him they had an opening at 8:15 and he said I will take it.  He turned around and went backc to the daycare, picked up Ariyana, and headed to the doctor’s.  When they got there they went right into the examination room and saw the doctor.  He checked her breathing, ears, nose and throat and decided that she just had a bad cold and lots of congestion.  He said he didn’t see any signs of it being pneumonia and as for the throwing up, he said it was probably a little bit of a stomach virus.  He said it wasn’t contagious and she was okay to go back to daycare.  He said give her Triaminic and Little Nose nasal drops to help with the congestion, and Infant Tylenol for the fever and aching. He also said not to force her to eat but to make sure she had plenty of water, formula, and pedialyte to keep her hydrated.

She went back to daycare and was okay the rest of the day.  When I picked her up, they said she was not herself.  They said she just wanted to be held and that she slept a lot.  The doctor said she might want to sleep a lot and to let her so that was kind of good.  She was the same way when we got home, very clingy and didn’t really want to play.  She did, however, go right to sleep when we put her to bed.

Mule Camp Market and Pictures October 13, 2008

So this weekend was Mule Camp Market in Gainesville.  What is Mule Camp Market you ask??  Well it is a festival where lots of vendors get together and sell things.  They also have music, food, and games for the kids.  We took Ariyana there on Saturday and had a really good time.  My mom met us there too and went.  We walked around for a while shopping.  I bought my stepdad his Christmas gift….and he is really going to like it.  I also bought a little backpack to use as a diaper bag.  I have been trying to find one for a while so I was happy to find it.  Ariyana had a very good time at the festival.  We had her in the stroller but she wanted to walk.  We finally took her out of the stroller and let her walk around.  She walked for like 15 minutes.  We were walking down one of the aisles and there was music playing.  All of a sudden, she stopped walking and just started dancing.  One of the ladies at a booth saw her and started to dance too, which made Ariyana dance even more….it was so cute.  Then we got some food and of course Ariyana had to have some of everything we were eating.

Then Saturday night we went to our nephew’s 10th birthday party.  We had a really good time there.  While we were there, we were eating watermelon and I had cut some up for Ariyana.  She was eating them just fine, then my sister-in-law picked her up and i continued to feed her.  All of a sudden she acted like she was choking and then she just started throwing up….all in my hand and then in the kitchen sink.  Luckily we were standing in the kitchen next to the sink.  Other than that, the party was good.

On Sunday we went down to Melissa’s (my sister) to take Ariyana’s one year old pictures after church.  Ariyana still had her cough and it was still getting worse.  The church nursery said that they could tell Ariyana wasn’t feeling well.  They said she is always such a happy baby and today she was just clingy and not happy.  We asked them when she would move up to the next room there because the one she is in is for birth to crawlers and she is now walking.  They said that it was really up to us, but that we could keep her in that room for a little longer until she was good at walking.  They said the next room has some big kids and they are a little rougher so it would be good if Ariyana could hold her own before she moved up.  The lady that watched her during the service said that she didn’t want Ariyana to move to it because she really enjoyed watching her and would be jealous if she was over there.

After church we headed to Melissa’s house.  When we got there Ariyana went right to Melissa, which is usually a good sign that she will be okay for the pictures.  We decided to do the cupcake picture first just in case she wasn’t feeling well enough to do other pictures.  We put her in her white onsie and put the cupcake in front of her.  It was chocolate with pink icing.   She looked at it and put her finger in it.  Then she looked at her hand like what the crap is this on my hand.  She looked over at me and started to whine a little.  Then I took some icing and tried to put it in her mouth but she just turned away…I can’t believe Ariyana didn’t want food.  Anyway, then she stuck her foot in the icing and then her leg…..Needless to say she had it all over her leg but didn’t eat any.  After I washed all the icing off, we put her in the GT cheerleading outfit and took some pics.  She wouldn’t be still for them so we would stand her as far back on the paper as we could and then get out of the way and she would start walking toward Melissa and she would snap the pics.  Then we did some pictures in the Georgia cheerleading outfit and did the same thing. Then we put her birthday outfit on and finished up the session.  Through all this, her cough continued to get worse.

We got home and fed Ariyana dinner.  While I was feeding her she did the same thing as Saturday night, she acted like she was choking and then started throwing up everything.  It startled her so bad that she started crying….it was sad :(   It was also the nastiest thing….she covered her whole high chair tray with throw up….I thought Zach and me were going to lose it too.  It was hard to swallow.  After we cleaned all that up and her, we decided to give her some puffs and cheerios (because they are a little more solid so if they came back up it wouldn’t be as nasty).  Well some of them came back up too.  It was a rough night to say the least.  Then she was so congested she couldn’t sleep, she was up til 1am crying.  She would stop if we held her but as soon as we put her down, she started to cry again.  I gave her a bottle at 12am because I thought she might be hungry since she didn’t keep her dinner down…It seemed to help her because from 12am to 1am she was awake but not crying….just laying in her crib talking to herself and animals.

Birthday Party Fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! October 6, 2008

We had Ariyana’s birthday party yesterday and it was great.  We had it at a local park and lots of our friends and family showed up.  We left our house at like 1pm to go set up for the party which started at 2:30p.  Ariyana only took a 30 minute nap from 11:00 – 11:30 so I was really worried that she would be cranky at the party, but she wasn’t.  We got there and started hanging the decorations and unloading everything and Ariyana just sat in her high chair, watching, and content.  Then people starting showing up and she was held and played with while we finished getting ready.

Once everyone had shown up, we just mingled and ate some snacks and Ariyana made her way around to see everyone.  We had borrowed a big bouncer for the kids to play in and they had a lot of fun playing in that.  Ariyana was too young to go in there but I don’t think she noticed.  It was great to see all the people we haven’t seen in a while and it was just good to all get together.  And Ariyana was so good, she didn’t cry at all, she was overwhelmed a little at times, but very good.

After a little while, we decided it was a good time to do cake.  Ariyana had her own little cake and we put “1″ candle in it, lit it and all sang happy birthday to her.  Then I blew the candle out and gave her the cake to dig into.  I really wanted her to get cake and icing all over her, but she didn’t.  She was kind of dainty with it. There were little flowers on the side of the cake made out of fondant icing and she would pick them off one at a time, hold them out, and then place them on the high chair.  Then there was a turtle on the top of the cake and she took it off and placed it on the tray.

Finally she started to eat some icing and pieces of cake.  She got some icing on her mouth and hands, but not all over like I wanted her to.  The cake was sitting on a little plate and she picked the plate up and tipped it over.  I took the plate and left the cake so she started to move the cake around the high chair.  Then she took the cake and pulled it into her lap.  So there wasn’t cake all over her face, but there was cake all over her lap….luckily she had a long bib on so it didn’t get all over her outfit.  That was all she wanted of the cake.

After the cake, comes the presents….and man she had some nice presents.  I sat her on my lap to help her open presents and the first couple she would watch me open and then she would get excited when she saw the toy.  But after a few, she was actually helping rip the paper.  there was one tall bag and she pulled the bag down and leaned up to peak in the bag to see what was inside.

She got toys, books, clothes, dolls, and a sandbox; she really seemed to enjoy them all.  She also got a Georgia cheerleading outfit, which is NOT COOL to her daddy because he is a big Georgia Tech fan.  Her aunt, however, is a Georgia fan and wanted to get pictures of her in it….it was kind of funny.  What made it more funny was that her daddy had bought and given her the Georgia Tech cheerleading outfit for her birthday too…..we know which one she will be wearing more :)

After presents, people started to leave and it was time to clean up.  The party did last about 2 – 2 1/2 hours and was so much fun….I know Ariyana had a great time.  She was so exhausted from the party that she fell asleep like 2 minutes after we got in the car.  She definitely slept well last night.
